What's a good programming language for learning.

Talk about anything here.

What's a good programming language for learning.

I'm interested in getting into game programming, but I want to start small. What would be a good language to learn first.

I'm on a mac btw.

So far I tried java, and it seems a bit hard for me. Is there any easy tools out there I could use?

Since your on mac, why not take a look at xcode. The apple developer docs should be enough to get you going.

Pfff. I always preferred visual studio to xcode. Maybe that's just because I'm a windows guy.

If you just wanna make something quick, you should check out Blitz Basic.

Blitz is more like a toy then an actual programming language.

But, I guess if all you want to do is make something up quick, then it'll do the job.

Meh. Blitz is ok if you just wanna make a game. but if your interested in the inner workings, say making a game engine, then blitz just won't cut it.

I was never a firm believer in these "fake" languages. Try teaching yourself something like c++ as it will help you out in other sectors besides gaming.
